Join Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition (RVCC) and Wallowa Resources for our 2nd annual Raise it for Rural celebration and fundraiser. This special event is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can be part of the conversation—and potential solutions — to some of the biggest challenges facing the rural West. Come meet our team, enjoy craft beer and local food, and help us raise funds to support our work.

Stories from the field

Wildfire is a growing problem in the West, threatening both rural and urban communities, and the natural environment. This pressing and complex problem requires innovative solutions, from the local to national scale. For our 2019 community celebration, we are excited to bring together three leaders in forest management and wildfire, including:

Dr. Paul Hessburg is a Research Landscape Ecologist for the US Forest Service and fire science expert. You may have seen Paul on the TEDtalk stage as he introduced us to the Era of Megafires.

Jay McLaughlin leads the Mt. Adams Resource Stewards, a nonprofit organization supporting the health, productivity, and sustainability of the communities, economy, and landscape of the Mt. Adams region. Jay will explain how innovative, local solutions can lead to more resilient forests and Western landscapes.

Sarah Altemus-Pope is a former smoke jumper, and currently coordinates the Southern Willamette Forest Collaborative. Sarah will share her experiences fighting fire and how our forest’s future depends on having effective policies in Washington D.C.
